Batuan Village is a well-known Balinese Artwork / Balinese Paintings and as such a well-known Bali tourism destination, located about 7 kilometers north of Denpasar and 10 kilometers south of Ubud. It is well-known for its dance, wood panel carving, and Bali paintings ubud. We provide a variety of tours to Batuan and Ubud painters, where you may see exquisite paintings and purchase Bali paintings.

The western impact was not as strong in Batuan village as it was in Ubud. Batuan paintings were frequently dark, dense depictions of legendary episodes or themes from everyday life, with weird animal monsters and witches accosting people. Gradations of black to white ink washes were put over most of the surface of the Batuan Village paintings to create an impression of darkness and gloom. The designs expanded to fill the entire space in later years, contributing to the crowded aspect of these Balinese paintings.

Balinese Traditional Painting Style was limited to aspects of the ritual such as religious parts, calendars, and leather puppets (balinese: wayang). Before 1920, this period was known as Kamasan or Wayang Style. Wayang is a two-dimensional drawing that appears in Hindu-Buddhist epics like the Mahabarata and Ramayana. The paintings were utilized as decorations on temples and palaces. Many anecdotes about religion and Bali life were illustrated by them. It is usually a series of paintings that tell a story. The name kamasan style was derived from the name of the village where it started. Traditional materials from mineral and vegetable or plant resources are also used in the kamasan style. White bone, soot, and stone are also used. Bamboo is employed as a painting instrument, and the material (canvas) is usually made of wood, tree leaf, or cloth. Bali was visited by western artists in the 1920s. The rules for painting Balinese art have changed as a result of this. The introduction of new canvas made of western materials, as well as inks and paint, has transformed the style of painting into contemporary art. A new method of painting balinese modern art has begun this year. The arrival of more artists in Bali has influenced the traditional style, which was formerly restricted to the ceremonial aspect.
Story of Batuan Village Batuan has been a village of Balinese art and Bali handicrafts for over a thousand years. According to recorded history, Batuan village has a thousand-year history that began in A.D. 1022 with an inscription kept in the principal village temple, Pura Desa Batuan/Batuan Village Temple. Desa Batuan / Batuan Village had to exist in Bali during the Warmadewa Dynasty. Batuan village eventually came to be known as Batuan, from the word Batu / Rock, because - at the time - this region was a rocky area (the famous Balinese sand stones are still produced here in northern Batuan), and then more popularly known as Batuan Village due to daily changes in the pronunciation.
