Bali Mas Village is one of the villages in Bali that is mostly recognized as an artistic countryside that focuses on wood carving. Mas Village lies in the east of Bali, in the Ubud subdistrict and Gianyar Regency. It owns the traditional wood carving art form by emphasizing the distinct synergy of humanism and naturalism. The hamlet's reputation as a wood carving art village is well-known on a national and international level, not to mention the highness of several maestros who have borne and discovered the spirit (taksu) and soul. The late Ida Bagus Nyana and her son, Ida Bagus Tilem,
are well-known wood carvers in this area. We may locate a number of art businesses along the road that sell a variety of wood carvings. We can also observe ricefields on the left or right side of the road, implying that the Mas people live not just as wood carvers but also as farmers. Every day, a large number of visitors come to this town to see or buy wood carvings and to learn how to make wood carvings from the locals.

This artistic countryside has a long and illustrious history. The result of wood carving art in this village has an immeasurable and wide dimension, such as an idol for devoting (arca idol), a representative dimension of everyday Balinese social society life (farmer, fisherman, worker, intellectual, merchant, and so on), and an abstract dimension as the existence of actor imagination that is carefully listening to reality, dynamics, and life philosophy. The villagers are similar to those in other tourist areas in Bali who have also gone through the transition from agrarian to handicraft lifestyle. Even today, it continues to serve society in a variety of ways, from commerce to souvenir levying for international and domestic tourists.

Location

Location Mas Village is conveniently placed on the main route connecting Denpasar and Ubud, and it can be reached from a variety of directions. The principal road to Ubud is around 15 kilometers east of Denpasar town. If you intend to travel to this location from Denpasar, the first point of entry into Mas Village is Sakah, where a large baby idol stands monumentally in the middle of the road. The Baby Idol is a symbol and representation of early human life that is held in high regard by locals for its philosophic, theological, and dynamism significance.
